The Salford Victoria Theatre Trust are in high spirits after no bids were made towards the historic venue after it was reportedly listed at £700,000.
The lack of bids for the venue meant that the trust can continue to negotiate to maintain the theatre for community use.
The trust have long been in negotiation with the current private owners and want to ensure that theatre can get back to its roots and “restore it to its former glory.”
While the failure to sell the building, with what they believe had no bids, is seen as a positive for the trust, it is not over yet.
The Salford Victoria Theatre Trust have been campaigning to save the theatre since it was put on an at risk list in 2012
While it is not fully saved yet, negotiation is now able to continue for the trust who are desperately trying to save the building which holds a “special place in the heart of the community.”
The Trust is eager to restore the building for community use.
As chair and treasurer of the trust, Sam Kelly, said at the fundraiser on Tuesday: “We have a lot of people moving into Salford now and it would just make a fantastic place for the local community to take pride in because it is an amazing building.
“Not only is it a beautiful space but it is a hugely historically significant space as well.”
We are hoping for further updates soon. You can also keep up with the trust here.
