The annual Salford Quays light show will return for its eleventh consecutive year hoping to entertain residents across the city this December.
The light show on the water will feature 14 illuminated displays, and will aim to show the work of emerging artists that have travelled from local, national, and international regions.
The Lightwaves trail will be unveiled tomorrow and will run from December 5 to December 8.
The trail is a fully accessible two-kilometre route around Salford Quays and Media City – where residents will be able to explore the installations and walk the trail to see the work.
One of the interactive light instillations, titled ‘Entwined’, will pay homage to the community spirit of Salford and will use the MediaCity Gardens to showcase “voices, sound, light, sculpture, and painting to create a multisensory experience.”
The artwork included in the Lightwaves trail has been created by artists from five different countries, Norway, France, Latvia, Slovakia, and Manchester.
Graham Thorne, the course leader for the Live Visual Design and Production course at the Academy of Live Technology, explained how a group of eight students have worked for ten weeks to create their artwork ‘The Light Within’, which is the 9th installation on the trail.
Graham said: “The Light Within is an interactive and thought-provoking installation that harnesses the transformative power of light.
“Exploring the profound impact light has on wellbeing in a playful and engaging way, combining artistry with cutting-edge technology.”
He continued: “The students work best when they are in real-world situations, with real problems, real clients and real budgets.
“Not only this, Lightwave is an established and recognised event now and is part of the Light Up the North network which is a prestigious and professional output for the students.”
“It’s an amazing curation of installations and is a fantastic opportunity for our students to stand proudly, shoulder to shoulder, with current artists whilst they show their work too,” he added.
The show will aim to dazzle Salford residents, and give them the chance to explore artwork using light across the Quays.
