Swinton Lionesses have signed Jamaican international Darcy Price from Salford Red Devils, and Tash Ryder from Castleford Tigers.

The Lionesses have signed another three new players following open trials at Salford City Roosters’ ground on November 6, as well as retaining many of last season’s squad.

Chairman of the Lionesses, Jason Harborow said of Price: “With Darcy, she plays in the forwards, we need to recruit some high standard forwards.

“Obviously she’s also the captain of Jamaica, so she’s a very good player with international experience and that’s very important to the team.

“So experience, played at a good level, committed to the sport, played at international level, brings lots of things.”

He also praised Ryder who has played for some big teams.

He said: “She’s played at Warrington, she’s played at Castleford, she played top level university.

“She’s a very good outside back with a lot of experience at a very senior level.

“We’re looking to bring in players who’ve played at a high level.”

These new signings are only the start of Swinton Lionesses’ big plans.

Harborow added: “We have got ambition.

“Firstly we want to play in the right way. So we want to play an attractive brand of rugby and we want people to say they enjoy watching the Lionesses.

“We want to be people and a team that people enjoy hosting and enjoy playing against. That’s important to us, but we want to be competitive, and we want to win.

“And you know, our ambition this season is to do as well as we can in the lead that we’re playing in, and, you know, hopefully gain more wins in the season that will put us in the position to win the league.”

The idea of equality and getting more people to watch Lionesses games is being strengthened by the club by having a fan forum for both teams on December 9 as well as, an open training session on December 15 which both the men and the women’s team are taking part in.

Another idea is to have a number of double headers at Heywood Road, which means the men and the women will play on the same day.

Harborow added: “That will attract different people to come and watch both teams, but hopefully increase interest in rugby league.

“So again, the board has committed, and we’re very delighted that we’ve got the support of Sale rugby where we play.”

Developments will be confirmed when fixtures for both teams are finalised.
