Salford City co-owner Gary Neville wasted no time aiming a cheeky dig at Pep Guardiola after the club were drawn away to Manchester City in the FA Cup third round.
Neville, 46, acquired The Ammies alongside his ‘Class of 92 teammates’ Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Phil Neville and businessman Peter Lim in 2014, before he bought out Lim’s share to become the club’s majority owner in August.
Salford booked their place in the third-round draw for the first time by beating League Two rivals Cheltenham Town 2-0 on Saturday.
Karl Robinson’s side were rewarded with a trip across Greater Manchester to face the reigning Premier League champions.
And ahead of the FA Cup third-round match at the Etihad, the former Manchester United fullback posted on X: “He’s getting sacked in the morning @SalfordCityFC.”

Neville’s social media post is a direct reference to Manchester City’s 2-0 away defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, where home supporters chanted “You’re getting sacked in the morning” to Guardiola as his side slipped to a fourth consecutive away defeat.
In response, the Spaniard held up six fingers to the Anfield crowd representing the number of titles he has won during his time in charge of The Cityzens.
By drawing Manchester City, Salford face an uphill battle to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Guardiola’s squad are experiencing their worst run of form since the manager took over as Manuel Pellegrini’s successor in 2016.
By the time the Salford game arrives – on the weekend of January 11 – he will hope to have found a solution for his team’s recent dip in form.
After the draw, Salford City Captain Curtis Tilt told the television audience: “I am absolutely delighted, I could not ask for anything better really. We wanted United for the owners of our club, but we will take Manchester City.
“We will go there and see if we can cause an upset.”
