Salford City face a trip to the Etihad Stadium after drawing reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Ammies booked their place in the FA Cup third round proper for the first time in their history with a convincing win 2-0 over League two rivals Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
Two goals in three minutes from Frankie Okoronkwo and Cole Stockton before a second-half penalty save from Matty Young saw Karl Robinson’s side break new ground.
And for their efforts, Salford have been rewarded with the ultimate glamour tie. Karl Robinson’s men will have the chance to pit themselves against one of the best teams in the country, while the club’s ‘Class of 92’ owners have the opportunity to renew their long-held rivalry with the blue side of Greater Manchester.
The tie will be played over the weekend of January 11, with winning teams earning £115,000 from the FA’s prize fund as losing sides receive £25,000.
The game against Cheltenham was a case of fourth time lucky for Salford, who had previously been knocked out at the second round stage three times. Following the match, Robinson highlighted “This competition has been very good to us.
“If you look at the first round and playing the youngsters of the back of their youth cup win and getting the youngest ever player for a professional club to play in the competition. Today to go the furthest ever we’ve gone in the competition is really good.
“Everything is a team effort, it always is and that’s the Salford way. No one person is ever bigger than this football club and that is the type of people we want. We are all very small cogs in a very well-oiled machine and we want to be successful together and that goes along for me, the staff, the players and the owners.”

Following the draw, Salford City captain Curtis Tilt said: “I am absolutely delighted, I could not ask for anything better really.”
“We wanted United for the owners of our club, but we will take Manchester City,” he joked, speaking to the BBC’s Dion Dublin.
“We will go there and see if we can cause an upset.”
