A Salford amateur football club is collaborating with a youth charity to provide gifts for homeless young people over the festive period.
FC Bridgewater, who are based off Vicars Hall Lane in Boothstown, have been supporting charities at Christmas since winter 2022.
This year they are working with Backup North West, a charity aiming to tackle homelessness among 16- to 25-year-olds in the North West of England and target the challenges that may lead to it such as mental illness, abuse and unemployment.
The charity’s services include providing safe accommodation and life-changing support that includes enhancing life skills, and increasing education and employability opportunities.
The football club are doing their bit by collecting donations from players, parents and supporters, to supply the children and young adults that the charity supports with Christmas gifts.
The club have compiled a list of gifts from which donors can choose.
The gifts can then be purchased and taken to a designated drop-off point before December 15.
Laura Pendlebury, Backup North West’s director of income and partnerships, said: “Collaborations like that of FC Bridgewater’s are absolutely essential to enabling Backup to continue to support as many young people as we can, especially at this time of year.
“Over Christmas we want to ensure that no-one is going without food or warmth, essentials, but gifts as well – plus critical support.”
Laura continued: “The gifts will make such a huge difference. For some, they’ve never even known Christmas. We’ve got young people with us at the moment who have never had a Christmas tree.
“Ultimately, we want them to have a little bit of happiness and hope over Christmas and we are so grateful for the support from FC Bridgewater and their community.”
