A Salford resident is about to undertake an ambitious plan to run 60km for men’s mental health.
George Frewer will be looking to complete the ultra-marathon challenge across Greater Manchester in aid of Movember on November 30 and December 1.
The huge challenge will be used to highlight the sad global statistic that 60 men die from suicide every 60 minutes with a route mapped to create the shape of the numbers.
George completes a fundraising challenge every year as an ambassador for Movember which encourages men to speak out about their mental health.
He has also struggled with his own mental health in the past.
He said: “Having just seen other other men going through the same thing, I was able to reach out and talk to friends and get through it.
“My reason for supporting November is to try and encourage men to reach out and talk to people, to share their problems and to normalise having conversations.”
He plans to run mainly around Salford, with his route including the Prestwich area.
One of the days will be completed in a large walking group, with the second day all focused on running.
As one of the leaders of the Monton Runners group he wanted to incorporate running elements to make the challenge more exciting.
He continued: “I do one of these big challenges every year, and normally we just walk.
“This year I decided that I wanted to step it up and make it a little bit more challenging, so added that running element.”
Over all the years of being a Movember ambassador, George has raised more than £10,000, also completing the MoRunning Liverpool Half Marathon.
