A Salford community hub Little Bees is appealing for support to help tackle the challenges of rising costs and increased bills.
Little Bees is a community play space in Salford that provides a crucial service for local families.
The community space offers affordable activities and a safe environment for children to play and grow.
Little Bees was founded by a former nurse Suzanne Roberts, who spent 14 years working in primary schools before opening the facility two years ago.
The hub has aimed to foster social interaction and provide a welcoming community for both children and their parents.
Suzanna said: “I’ve seen friendships grow with parents that come. They come at set times together to meet up.”
Suzanna has welcomed the community into her studio, that has become known for its friendly atmosphere and affordability, with offerings such as tea or toast for just £1.
“I don’t want to increase prices, because I just want it to be affordable for the local families,” she added.
However like many small businesses Little Bees is feeling the strain of higher running costs.
Despite the challenges currently faced throughout the winter, Suzanne remains determined to continue providing an affordable and enriching space for families.
She said: “I feel like I’ve built relationships with a lot of families. We have actually had a lot of parents coming back with a second child.”
To ensure its doors stay open, Little Bees is calling on the local community for support.
The team is urging residents to visit, spread the word, and participate in their sessions.
Suzanna continued: “It’s lovely seeing the messages we’ve received from people who don’t come anymore because their children have gone to school.
“We’ve had more reposts and people sharing our things.”
Suzanne also hopes to use the space to provide more for parents, further strengthening the community bond that Little Bees has nurtured.
She said: “It’s important for parents to go out and interact and socialise. What I’ve learned with the parents is a lot do struggle, and they find it hard to speak out.”
For now, the focus is on rallying the Salford community to help this much-loved play space overcome its challenges.
Whether through a visit, a social media shoutout, or volunteering, Suzanne is confident that with the community’s backing, that Little Bees can continue to thrive.
