The Treehouse Café

A local Salford café offers more than just great food, coffee and cosy vibes but a focus on sustainability and local businesses.

The café based on Lower Broughton Road, is currently on a mission to support local farmers and reduce its environmental impact.

Treehouse has become a standout example of how small, independent businesses can make a big impact.

As owner Josef Prchal said: “We believe that food should bring people together while also giving back to the community.”

The café began  as a shared dream between owner Josef and his friend, who both have backgrounds as chefs and baristas.

“We believe that food should bring people together while also giving back to the community,” owner Josef Prchal says.

The aim for himself and friends was to create something fresh whilst staying rooted in the local area.

Josef continued: “We wanted to open something new in Salford, so why wouldn’t we do something local?”

The local support from the café is essential to the brand, as they want to offer “the best, locally sourced, freshly prepared food and drinks.”

The café sources its bread from Companio Bakery in Ancoats, and other staples like bread and eggs are supplied by nearby businesses.

According to Josef, this approach isn’t just about reducing food miles, but also improving quality and communication.

“There is definitely a benefit in terms of food miles. The produce is better quality, and the delivery process is smoother. With local businesses, you know exactly where your produce is coming from”.

For Josef, sustainability is more than just a business choice, as he added: “If you want to stay open, you have to support others in staying open as well.”

The café’s commitment to sustainability is reflected across its entire menu, from dishes featuring free-range eggs to sandwiches and toasties made with freshly delivered bread, and more.

Treehouse Café aim to inspire other local businesses to also adopt sustainable practices.

“It benefits everyone around us, helping everyone stay open. If you have an idea of what you want to do, just go for it.”

Treehouse Café is proving that small steps, like choosing local suppliers, can lead to significant change within the community, and across Salford as a whole.
