The biggest sporting stars will be welcomed to MediaCityUK this December as it is set to host the Sports Personality of the Year awards 2024.

The prestigious BBC awards will be held on December 17, and will be coming to Salford to celebrate a year of sporting achievements.

The details for the event have been finalised, and the BBC have shared the hosting team and the timings of the event.

This year the hosting team will be made of Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott, with the ceremony being televised from 7pm to 9pm.

The award show will celebrate sporting achievement that will include the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, Euro 2024, the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups and the Champions League final that was hosted at Wembley Stadium.

Those who wish to attend the event this year will be able to enter for a ticket via the ballot, and can register for a ticket here.

Audience members in attendance can also get involved in the event on the night, contributing by voting for their winner on the night.

Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport said: “Once again, it’s been a nail-biting, thrilling and emotional year of amazing sport.

“From the Olympics to men’s Euros to records broken across the country and the world, we can’t wait to look back and enjoy it all over again.”

Alex continued: “We were spoiled and it’s impossible to know who will receive the awards.

“Thankfully the audience gets to decide who claims the Sports Personality of the Year Award, so we don’t have to. Regardless of who wins, it’s sure to be a special evening celebrating sporting greatness and I can’t wait to attend my first in the job.”

The event will be able to celebrate all sporting achievements throughout the year, and will offer sports star the chance to win the Sports Personality of the Year and the World Sport Star of the Year.

As well as the Helen Rollason award, an award dedicated to the sports presenter Helen Rollason, who died in August 1999 at the age of 43 after suffering from cancer for two years.

The award itself is given to someone “for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity”.

Sport stars will also have the chance to win Young Sports Personality of the Year, Unsung Hero, Coach of the Year, and the Team of the Year.

At the ceremony there will also be the chance to win the Lifetime Achievement award, who has seen recipients such as Sir Kenny Dalglish, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Chris Hoy, and Usain Bolt.

With all the awards on offer this year, the contenders for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 will be announced later in December.
