The cleanup in Salford Quays has begun following the heavy rainfall and flooding from Storm Bert this weekend which left waterways clogged with debris.
Dredgers were out today clearing mounds of waste washed up from the storm that hit Salford and Greater Manchester.
The debris at North Bay by the Alchemist bar is made of a mix of trees, branches, plastic waste and even a multitude of footballs.
Other areas affected include the basin by the Salford Watersports Centre, with more debris washed up by the platform.
Over the weekend the region was hit with heavy rainfall that led to the River Irwell bursting its banks.
The effects of Storm Bert saw an overflow Saturday night (November 23) over multiple pathways especially by the bridge by Regent Road, with water levels still high Sunday afternoon.
However, following the build up of debris a cleanup has begun with boats helping to move debris however one local feels that the effort is almost too little, too late.

Although this issue seems to be a recurring issue, as Salford resident Paul Wilkinson, said: “It’s been an issue for 10 years and it’s very unsightly,” when talking about the debris that has been left in the area.
He continued on to say that he feels “enough isn’t done by the people controlling the area to keep the waterways clear” and he added that “whenever there is heavy rain and storms we end up with a huge mess.”
While the cleanup continues, residents and businesses alike will hope that it is resolved quickly and efficiently.
