A new community hub and warm space will be set up in Salford City Academy in Brookhouse Estate this November.
The community of Salford are set to band together to create a warm and sheltered environment this winter.
Salford City Council, Salford City Academy, Barton Moss School and the Brookhouse community will be working in collaboration to make this a reality.
The warm space will be open weekly offering residents support from experts from health and well being services, helping attendees with information, screenings and support.
The warm space will be open from November 27, and will help support, inform, and care for people in the local community.
Following the announcement of the collaboration, Councilor Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council share her excitement.
As she said: “Myself and local councillors John Walsh and Mishal Saeed have been campaigning for a community hub at Brookhouse, as there had been an absence of such a service in our area.
“Residents had raised these issues at our ward walkabouts, councilor surgeries and while we had been out canvassing with the City Mayor.”
“This multi-agency approach will make a massive difference to the experience of residents who will welcome these much needed services,” she added.
“Our aim is to bring the community together and improve the lives of our residents living on the Brookhouse Estate” Said Councilor Mishal Saeed, Executive Support Member for Social Care and Mental Health at Salford City Council.
“Creating a vibrant community atmosphere people can have the support they need is vital as we head towards the cold, dark winter where may people feel even more isolated than usual.”
The warm spaces will look to provide a welcoming environment for anyone, and everyone – hoping to create a strong community during the winter period.
This was also shared by Councillor Mishal Saeed, who said “Currently the plans are for the hub to operate weekly, during [the] winter period.
“As the service continues to be used, this will be reviewed and plans will be confirmed past the winter period.”
Cllr. Saeed also revealed that the council will measure the impact of this service “through participation rates, community feedback, and engagement with the services offered.”
The Salford Cllr. also shared that “this service is being offered through existing resources within the Council and Salford City Academy.
“The hub offers activities for all ages and informal chats with health experts, providing health, recreational and practical support to families. The city mayor and local Councillors are determined to tackle inequalities”.
