Mourning the death of Baby A

A direct appeal was made today by the Greater Manchester Police as they search for the mother of Baby A.

The appeal follows the discovered remains of Baby A in Little Hulton on Wednesday 20 November, by a dog walker.

The remains of the body was found near to the layby off Cleggs Lane, by Ashtons Field in Little Hulton.

The identity of the baby is still unknown, as the investigation continues, and police are yet to confirm the circumstances of the death at this current time.

Detective Chief Inspector, Charlotte Whalley, of Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, lead the appeal for the mother today.

As she said: “This week, we have discovered the remains of a baby near to the layby off Cleggs Lane, by Ashtons Field in Little Hulton.

“Our investigation is in the early stages and we do not know the background or circumstances that have led to this baby being separated from the mum.”

She continued: “We don’t know the pressures the mum might have been under before she gave birth or in the time afterwards, but our priority is to find answers, and to make sure the mum is safe.

We know that this baby’s mum is somewhere out there, potentially watching this, and we would appeal for anyone who may know the mum or had their suspicions about her pregnancy to come forward so we can find her and speak to her.

We will do everything we can to help the mum. Trained officers are ready to support her, no matter what the circumstances are, please contact us.”

Police have remained at the scene for over 48 hours, where Baby A was discovered around 1 pm on Wednesday 20 November.

Forensic tents remain in place, with the death of the baby having a major impact on the community, with flowers, cards and gifts being left in the area.

Anyone with information are being encouraged to come forward, as Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood stated earlier in the week: “Even the most minor detail could be crucial to our investigation.

“If you have seen anyone in the area over the last few days, or know who the parents could be, please call us as soon as you can.”

If you have any additional information you can get in touch by ringing 101 and quoting log 1319 of 20/11/24, or if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or it can be done online.
