Boothstown Residents Association “are aiming to raise £15,000 to renew the Christmas lights that have been used for several years”.
The Christmas lights will be installed then taken down and stored and re-installed each year, for over three years.
These upgraded lights can be seen along the stretch of Leigh Road, around the trees and lampposts on the edge of the precinct.
“The current lights have been up several years, they are damaged and at the end of their life cycle”, it was stated “due to electrical works, the lights on the precinct are unable to go on the trees”.
The GoFundMe page closed on 28th October; any more money donated after is to be added to the offer on the precinct next year once the works are completed.
“Boothstown Association are working with LITE to design new features which will be displayed from mid-November.”
Raising all the £15,000 would include the removal of existing lights, installation of the new design and electrical points.
As they added: “The more funds raised the better the display!!! Come on Boothstown let’s light up the area for the dark winter nights!”.
Boothstown Facebook community group have stated: “Well done to all involved, some much needed cheer on dark winter days!”
The association is aiming for the Village Hall to be lit up for Christmas from the 30th of November.
As they continued: “We want to put up more lights but don’t have the funds, but we did a great job raising £10,000.”
The group has rallied after losing Beryl Howard, who passed away in 2022 and previously oversaw the Residents Association group.
She “worked tirelessly for the community” as a councillor and community volunteer organising things like this.
Since then, the association has reformed.
Special thanks have also been given to “Malt dog, Present Trend, Royal Oak, Why not cafe bar, Coal and Cotton, The Legion, Desire, Masons, Sainsburys and Millbrooke in Boothstown for their support in raising this money.”
The Boothstown Residents Association are also “delighted to confirm the annual carol service will be held on Sunday 1st December”, details will be provided in the next few weeks.
