Local band Rolla are set to hold a much-anticipated gig this Friday as they aim to raise money to save the iconic Salford Lads Club.ย
The band are set to take to the stage tomorrow night (Friday 15 November) as they look to donate every penny raised to saving the venue.
The announcement of the gig saw a lot of immediate success, with tickets to the event selling out an hour after going on sale.
Following the sell-out of tickets all the funds went to the iconic youth centre, and so far raised hundreds to help contribute and keep the lights on.
The band will be excited for the gig at the iconic youth centre, being a Manchester-based band, with all five members meeting when they were in school.
The group is compiled of brother-duo James Gilmore (singer) and Luke Gilmore (bassist) , as well as Luke McConnell (guitar) and Saul Bardsley (drums), and Tom Paddon (guitar).
And this will be a major show for them, with the cultural significance this building has had on both generations across Salford, and music across the world.

Ahead of the gig that is set to take place tomorrow night, bandย frontman,ย James Gilmore said: “They get like,ย nearly 300 people in and kids from the local area in each week.
“I think a lot of people don’t realise that it’s still running like that and how busy it actually is.”
As drummer Saul Bardsley added: “It’s not just a venue is it.”
For the event the band had also released aย limited amount of T-Shirts, which will cost fans ยฃ20 each, and have been selling extremely fast.
The t-shirts depict the band ROLLA standing just outside of Salford Lads Club, with all the money spent on the clothing going straight into the fundraiser.
Salford Lads Club has been a staple of the city for many years, and it has seen a huge response with it clearly impact various generations since its opening in 1903.
And this was expressed by the band frontman, James as he added: “It’s been going for 120 years, so for our generation to be the ones to let it down, and to be the ones that close it’s doors- we just didn’t like that.
“We are helping it out as much as we could putting the gig on, all the proceeds, all the merch, everything goes back to them.”
Here is more of the interview with the band:
The gig on Friday will be sure to draw in a bouncing crowd all in the name of Salford Lads Club, a monument of the city.
As the band spoke candidly about their musical inspirations, even listing The Verve and Kasabian as their main inspirations and it is clear to hear within their music.
Ahead of the gig, the band have released a new EP today (November 14 2024) and contains the brand new song ‘It Ain’t Easy’ as well as their song ‘We Owe You Nothing’.
The EP itself speaks as an ode to that iconic Manchester sound with an added edge of rock n’ roll guitar strums and hard hitting drum beats which leaves any listener wanting more.
The bands high powered volt sound has solidified the notion that Rolla are the perfect act to blast the speakers of Salford Lads Club, and hopefully not for its last hurrah.
The total for the fundraiser currently stands at over ยฃ227,000, and looks to get ever closer to its goal before the end of the month – donations to the fundraiser can be made here.ย
