Salford Red Devils trials

Salford Red Devils have announced a new agreement with a Championship side to give their players valuable playing opportunities. 

The new partnership with the Barrow Riders will see Salford offer their players the chance to play in a competitive environment, improving both clubs.

The club have already been able to see success in this decision, as they pipelined prop forward Jamie Pye, who was able to participate in a successful stint at the end of the 2024 season.

His successful run at the club, allowed him to do enough to sign his first professional deal with the Red Devils.

Following the decision from the club, Paul Rowley, Head Couch at Salford, said: “On behalf of everybody at Salford, we are delighted to reunite with our friends at Barrow.

“We have a very trusting relationship and both clubs share the same family values of which we want our players to be a part of.”

The Raiders have already received some key former Red players, most notably Challenge Cup Final try scorer James Greenwood.

The Barrow Raiders will be hopeful that this partnership will help for them to improve following last seasons 11th place finish.

As Director of Rugby of Barrow Raiders, Andy Gaffney said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to link up with Salford ahead of the season.”

And following the decision of the dual registration agreement, Andy continued: “There is a lot of trust between the three of us, and I’m sure that the players who come in to bolster our group will be motivated to help us achieve real success in 2025.”

The decision has also been shared with the relationship between the Paul Rowley and the Director of Barrow, Andy Gaffney.

As he continued: “Paul Rowley is one of my greatest friends in the game, and someone who Paul Crarey and I have great admiration for, both from a professional and personal viewpoint.”
