Salford City FC have announced the departure of Sporting Director Chris Casper, as he makes the a return to his hometown club Burnley.
The 49-year-old, who was a part of the ‘Class of 92′, will be moving to manage the academy of the Clarets after eight years in Salford.
Casper joined Salford City in 2017 when the club turned professional and oversaw the set up, implementation, and development of the academy.
And it seems that the move will be a major one for Casper, having links to the Lancashire club, being born in Burnley, and being the son of former Burnley player and manager, Frank Casper.
The Casper family name continues in Lancashire club beyond Frank, Chris’ 19-year-old son Charlie is also a goalkeeper for the Clarets.
Over Chris Casper’s eight years at the Ammies he has seen 46 players come through from the club’s academy that have been able to make first team appearances.
One of those players, Marshall Heys, who made Emirates FA Cup history as the youngest player to play for a professional club in the competition.
The young 15-year-old talent came on as a substitute in the 2-1 win against Shrewsbury Town earlier this month.
Speaking to Salford City regarding his departure, Casper said: “I would like to thank the staff and players that I have worked with for their help and support over nearly eight years in what has been such an exciting time at the club.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Salford with some wonderful people.
“I would also like to thank the supporters who have been brilliant in my time at the Club.
“In particular I would like to thank the owners for their support and their trust throughout my time here, and I am grateful to them to have allowed me this opportunity,” he added.
The club have also thanked Casper for his efforts and wished him well in his new position.
After nearly 8 years at the club, Chris Casper has left to take up a role at Burnley 🤝

On his arrival to Burnley, Casper said: “It feels amazing. It’s a privilege to be here.
“It’s my hometown club, I grew up in the town and to be part of the club now is absolutely fantastic.”
The departure of Chris Casper is the second of the Class of 92 to step down from a position at Salford City in recent months, as Ex-CEO, Nicky Butt also recently stepped down from his role.
The reshuffle of the club will begin to leave some uncertainty for fans, and with the January transfer window approaching, it is a difficult time to lose such important figures.
Pressure will be on through the January transfer window, as Salford head coach Karl Robinson recently has expressed the clubs need for additional players and goalscorers.
As he said: “We’ve got to look at recruitment in January, we’ve got to find players in the final third that score goals.”
The departure of Casper could derail any transfer window preparations the club may have in place, but with a new era of Salford City taking place the Ammies this could lead to future excitment.
