A brand new £2 million bus network service is set to be developed, as it hopes to improve transport routes in Salford.
The development of the bus network will be setup by Salford City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester(TfGM), who have created this plan.
The plan will see the existing X50 service, which goes through the centre of Manchester and the Trafford Centre, slightly altered as it will make multiple stops on Ordsall Lane and Salford Quays.
Following the plans, Councillor Jack Youd Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Finance, Support Services and Regeneration at Salford City Council said: “As a result of developments along Ordsall Lane, Section 106 monies have been secured through the planning process to provide improved bus connectivity for new and long established residents between Salford Quays and Manchester city centre.”
“Section 106 money is money paid by developers to mitigate the impact of development on our communities.”
He continued: “The bus service between the Quays and Manchester city centre will bring a green, sustainable transport option for commuters and travelling for enjoying a pint at Salford Quays.
“We will maintain our great success in bringing in Section 106 money to be spent on projects that benefit our all our communities.”
To fund the project, Salford City Council have put £2,064,452.56 into the expenditure of the bus route, that will also include promotional incentives and activities to attract more people to the new service.
Higher ups from the Council and TfGM hope the service, amongst others, will be running by Autumn 2025, with reviews happening approximately two years after.
Salford City Council announced last week that the Salford area “is the latest to have a Bee Network review.”
The review involves seeking feedback from local residents about how the Bee Network “can improve bus services” in the region.
