A rising force in UK flag football has taken the Salford by storm, as the Salford Scorpions won their first adult tournament in club history.
The Salford Scorpions were formed six years ago, and they were able to win the SAL Bowl 2024, beating the the Warrington Revolution in the final moments of the game 19-18.
The tournament success was a major victory for the club, with 18 teams taking part in the competition from across the country.
The Scorpions were able to win the the inaugural trophy, with the help from their offensive MVP James Molyneux, who has been ranked the seventh best in the Highlands and Northern Premiership.
As well as the support from their Defensive MVP Loughlan Campbell, with the pair playing a key part in the historic moment for the club and sport.
18 teams took part in the tournament from across different parts of the UK looking to take home the inaugural trophy.
Following the success of the SAL Bowl, General manager, Dave Myring said: “We’ve got ambitions of it getting bigger every year, this is the time of the year where there isn’t many tournaments happening.
“We thought we’d give it a go.”
The Salford side currently compete in the British American Football Association (BAFA) , and participate in multiple regional and national tournaments, and play at the highest level of the league system spreading Salford’s name across the nation putting their best foot forward for the local community.
Not only do the Salford Scorpians compete at an adult level, they also compete in school leagues with Salford Scorpion under 11’s finishing second in the nation.
With multiple teams spread across age range and gender, the SAL bowl 2025 will hope to bring more exciting opportunities for people to get involved with the sport.
And it seems that the sport has greater aspirations, as Dave Myring said: “With the Olympics around the corner in 2028, it’s really exciting to have a real pathway for players to go through and represent Great Britain.”
The Salford Scorpions currently play in the Premiership of flag football, and currently ranked fourth in the division last season.
They will be hoping to build the brand and push further to the playoffs and win their first title in the clubs history, and they continue to break boundaries in the sport, the opportunities are limitless.
And with flag football becoming of the fastest growing sports in the UK, this could be the first major victory and stepping stone in the clubs early history.
With the Salford Scorpions playing in the premiership of flag football and being fourth ranked last season they hope to continue to build the brand and push further to the playoffs and win their first title in the clubs history and keep at breaking boundaries for the sport and fly the flag for one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.
