A local government award has seen Salford City Council named the “best place to work” beating various other nominees across the UK.

The council’s application, accompanied by a video and a presentation, was judged as the best by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC).

The LGC the awarding body impressed with how staff embraced the people-centered culture and promoted the values of the rich, diverse culture of Salford.

Following the award, Salford Mayor Paul Dennett was happy to share: “What a fantastic achievement!  Well done to everyone who was involved in putting the presentation together, and a big thank you to the stars of the show, our colleagues.

“As the public landscape fluctuates, socially and financially, the council will equip and encourage colleagues to develop themselves to meet the challenges, and opportunities they will encounter.

“Our commitment to build a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive Salford for everyone is the driving force behind everything that our colleagues do for our communities, with passion and with pride.”

The award-winning presentation, titled ‘This is Our Salford’, featured staff explaining what working for Salford City Council means to them, in a vox-style film that showed the powerful sense of community in the workplace.

As Salford City Council employees were also encouraged to develop, both professionally and personally, to meet their aspirations and the needs of a dynamic, modern city, supported by compassionate leadership to encourage and empower individuals.

The video was a perfect demonstration of how important Salford is in the community, which was enough to win the award of “best place to work”.

And this excitement was also shared by the Council’s Chief Exectutive, Tom Stannard, who said: “To win this award and be recognised, nationally, as an authority where people want to work, is a great achievement, so well done to everyone.

“We recognised that by developing a structure that promotes innovative thinking, encourages individuals to develop and expand their skills, we can cultivate a work environment that is safe and supportive for everyone.”
