Mcdonalds newly opened rubbish concerns

Salford residents have voiced their concerns over rubbish and litter for the newly opened McDonalds in Exchange Quays.

The new fast-food restaurant opened their doors on October 30 this year, after getting planning permission approved in September.

The additional franchise eatery will be another addition of fast-food to the city of Salford, and will into its new home on Exchange Quays.

The new restaurant has taken over the site that has been unoccupied since 2020, with previous occupants being the Mexican restaurant chain, Chiquito.

McDonalds is perfectly sat along the tramline opposite the Salford Quays tram stop, sitting next to its neighbours Starbucks and the Matchstick Man.

The new site will be open 24 hours, but it seems that it will not be offering a drive through, unlike its nearest franchise on Regent Road.

However, despite the excitement of the new opening the site of 3 Capital Quay has received numerous concerns about a potential build-up of litter and rubbish.

Following the announcement of the opening, one Salford resident, Steve Sheridan shared on Facebook: “Give it a week there will be litter everywhere.”

Whilst another named Roy Thorpe, shared his concerns commenting: “More rubbish in the canals.”

Being based next to the waterways of Salford Quays, there will be a huge importance of keeping the litter away from the waterways and the surrounding nature.

However, with the concerns from Salford residents, McDonalds issued a statement on their plan to protect the local environment.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “At McDonald’s we strive to be a good neighbour in the communities we serve.

We take our responsibility around litter very seriously, which is why for over 40 years, McDonald’s restaurant teams, have carried out daily litter patrols in local communities, collecting all litter not just McDonald’s branded packaging.”

They continued: “We look forward to working together with the local community in Salford, to identify any litter hot spots surrounding the restaurant, which we will look to include in our litter patrols wherever possible.”
