Salford City’s under-18s advanced into the next round of the FA Youth Cup, after leaving it late to beat Huddersfield 2-1.

The younger Ammies side had to battle hard to see themselves progress in the competition, coming from behind to book their place.

Salford started well, but were immediately put under pressure, with Huddersfield taking the lead through Nicolas Idemudia’s header.

And despite two fantastic chances at the end of the half from Will Wright, hitting the crossbar and the post the Terriers went into the break in the lead.

However, the Ammies seemed to come out for the second half unfazed, starting quickly and finally getting their reward five minutes after the interval.

Salford’s Jake Dodd was able to run down the right-hand side, before squaring the ball into the box where Will Wright emphatically equalised.

With the game developing it seemed to open up, as both sides looked to avoid extra time.

However, with additional time being announced it seemed that the pressure was on.

But it seemed that the deadlock was well and truly broken in the 94th minute, with Marshall Heys driving the ball out from the back and threading a fantastic ball through to Ruben Butt.

The Salford forward was able to receive the ball well, before curling his shot into the far top corner for the lead.

The dramatic 94th minute winner sent the club into crazed celebrations with players rushing from the bench to join in, with Dean Marney’s side relishing in the opportunity of the next round.

With the players still remembering the celebrations from last night, they will be unaware of their next opposition until all the first round ties are completed.

The Ammies have already improved on last seasons competition form, where they were eliminated from the competition in the first round after a first round defeat to Accrington (3-0).
