Salford Colchester

Salford City were able to secure their first away victory away this season with a 2-1 victory over Colchester United.

The Ammies travelled to the JobServe Community Stadium, and were in search for back to back victories in the league.

Karl Robinson’s side proved that they were up for the task, with the travelling away side starting the half with confidence having the majority of the chances.

Salford’s first real opportunity came from Ben Woodburn’s effort as he struck a shot from the left side of the box, that narrowly went wide of the post.

The Ammies would continue to build on this momentum, with three quickfire shots from Tyrese Fornah and Mnoga, forcing saves from the the Colchester goalkeeper.

Despite their best efforts, Karl Robinson’s side were unable to break the deadlock, with both sides going into half time level.

However, despite the Ammies best efforts, it was Colchester that started better of the two teams with the home side having the first chance of the half with a wayward shot by Gordon rising above the crossbar.

But Salford responded quickly with an inform Kouassi forcing a save, after a brilliant cut back from Ossama Ashley.

However, it wasn’t until the hour mark that the game would shoot into life, the deadlock was broken when forward Kylian Kouassi’s headed pass fell to the feet of left wingback Kelly N’Mai who would rifle it into the bottom left corner.

Despite falling behind, Colchester would claw their way back into the fixture, retaliating with Harry Anderson finding the net after rebounding his own shot.

The Colchester forward would fire the ball into the roof of the net, much to the relief of the home support.

Although the Ammies had stumbled, it seemed that they would continue their pursuit for a winner.

And it didn’t take long, as with 14 minutes to go Salford would regain their advantage as Kouassi smashed a shot into the bottom corner to put Salford 2-1 up with only 14 minutes to go.

The Ammies were able to take the lead, and looked optimistically for the possibility of winning back to back games for the first time this season.

And it was almost finalised with Kouassi and Fornah, having chances to extend Salford’s lead, but despite their best efforts they would have to settle for a 2-1 win and all three points.

The victory has sent the Ammies up to 13th in the league, and a victory over Fleetwood on Tuesday night could send the Ammies as high as eighth.
