Just 10 days after the first event, Age UK Salford’s music café has been hailed “a marvellous success”.
The new music café was launched in Weaste on October 18, inviting individuals living with dementia and their caregivers to go along and get involved in music-based therapy.
More than 30,000 people in Greater Manchester suffer with dementia, and charities like Age UK have organised different events to help support those who are suffering.
Attendee Audrey said: “I’ve really enjoyed it, every week I really look forward to it.”
Others described their visit to the café as a wonderful experience.
The cafe allows those with dementia to have conversations and communicate without words but through percussion instruments.
Age UK now plans to add further location next April.
The café is an extension of the events that have been running in Manchester for many years, and the free music sessions take place in Chandos Sports and Social Club, Weaste,
The sessions allow those suffering with dementia to socialise and talk through music, while expressing themselves and having fun with percussion instruments.
We are excited to launch a music cafe for those living with dementia and their carers in conjunction with @musicinmind_org and @MancCamerata
