Salford Lads Club

Nearly 1,000 people have donated to Salford Lads Club’s £250,000 appeal to keep the iconic youth centre open.

After the first week the total has reached £137,000 including a contribution of £100,000 from Salford City Council, meaning

the Go Fund Me has hit over half of the goal of £250,000.

Many have since donated to the iconic Salford location including Manchester band Rolla who have been declared “honorary Salford Lads Club Lads” for offering to play a benefit gig at the iconic venue on November 15 which has already sold out.

They also announced that all money made from the show in merchandise and ticket sales will be donated to the fundraiser to keep Salford Lads Club open.

Other backers include Manchester- based artist Ben Rock who is auctioning an oil painting of Salford Lads Club to support the appeal, with all money going to the fundraiser.

On his Instagram, Ben said: “As a creative, I truly believe in the power of art to change lives. I have a personal connection to this building too. Recently, I visited an Oasis exhibition here and met the legendary Tony McCarroll.”

Bids for the painting can be made here.

Salford music legend, Graham Nash, had got the appeal off to a great start with a £10,000 donation.

A Club thank you message reads: “We’re overwhelmed by the love and support shown to Salford Lads and Girls Club.

“A huge thank you to Salford City Council, Graham Nash and so many more who have supported us so far.

“Your generosity has brought us closer to securing the club’s future, and we are incredibly grateful for each and every contribution.”

But after they have surpassed the halfway mark, the effort still isn’t over.

“This is not the end yet. We still have more to raise to ensure we can keep our doors open, continue supporting young people, and remain at the heart of Salford.”
