A man has died after he collapsed or fell onto the tracks before being hit by a tram in Salford Quays. 

The fatal incident happened close to the Harbour City Metrolink stop at 10.25pm in Salford Quays last night (Sunday October 20).

A man, thought to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said the man may have collapsed or fallen onto the tracks, following which he was sadly hit by a tram, but the exact circumstances are not known.

No arrests have been made so far, and investigations are continuing.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police are also urging people with any relevant CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to offer their support.
