Salford city have changed their system for homeless people

Swinton has won £1.6 million to demolish the old St Ambrose Barlow school.

Salford City Council has been awarded £1,615,000 brownfield development cash to remove the former school.

The council has until the end of March 2025 to secure a contract for the demolition.

Councillor Jack Youd, Deputy City Mayor and lead member for Finance, Support Services and Regeneration at Salford City Council, said: “The award of the money after our bid is great news for Swinton.”

The work is part of an overall vision to transform the town which is home to approximately 40,000 people.

Its aim is to encourage investment and regeneration “to deliver on its potential and tackle some of the issues that are holding it back.”

The council wants to improve the area through differing themes ‘Living and leisure’, ‘Connecting: community and commuting’, or ‘Growing from the green.’

The money has come from the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund.
