Pensioners across Salford will be able to see if they are eligible to claim pension credits in an event this week.
The Salford unemployed and community resource will be holding a pensioner “Open Day” at the Salford UCRC in Eccles.
The Salford UCRC in Eccles, have been a key supporter in the Salford community helping the community from 1980 during an economic recession.
The centre has been referred to as the “fourth emergency service”, and has continued to help the community for over 44 years.
The UCRC has been offering a range of support services for the community to combat poverty.
They have been a hub in the community offering educational facilities, advice and legal representation.
The Closing The Gap Project assists people with debt management, benefits information, basic literacy, numeracy skills and IT, confidence building, healthy living and CV writing.
And they will continue to provide this service, as this week it will allow pensioners to receive support, helping people with claims, appeals, and housing issues.
The Open Day will be held between 1pm and 3pm this week (Friday 18 October), and will encourage many to check their eligibility.
The centre has encouraged those who are of pension age or older, have a residency in the UK, or people who have an income below a certain amount, and those who qualify for additional sums to attend.
As the community centre, will be hoping to secure extra money for those eligible.
And for pensioners this will be a vital event, as “Over 850,000 eligible pensioners are missing out on Pension Credits.”
The centre have encouraged people to “come down and have a brew and a chat and see how we can support you.”
