Swinton Lions head coach has resigned following the club’s defeat to Hunslet that saw the club relegated to League One.
Head Coach Alan Kilshaw resigned from his position from the club after the Lions lost 20-22 in their home play off fixture this weekend (Sunday).
The club were favourites to win the fixture, and looked to live up to their expectations after they took the the lead within 15th minutes from a try through former Salford winger Rhys Williams.
And despite the Lions going into half time with a 10-6 lead, they weren’t able to hold on losing the game 20-22.
Following the defeat Kilshaw offered his resignation to the Swinton board, which has now been accepted.
The decision was sent out, with the club issuing a statement today (Monday) the club said: “Following last night’s defeat to Hunslet, which has come as a devastating blow to all of us at Swinton Lions RLFC.
“We can confirm Head Coach Alan Kilshaw offered his resignation and this was accepted unanimously by the Board of Directors.”
Alan took over the club in August 2023, when he succeed Allan Coleman at end of this season on a two-year deal.
However, with the challenge of fighting for a place to remain in the Championship, it seemed that his position at the club wasn’t strong enough to keep them in the division.
However, despite their relegation the club continued: “The Board would however like to place on record its thanks to Alan for all of his hard work on behalf of the club.
“We will now look to announce a successor as soon as possible, and then take the opportunity to re-set, and look to plan towards a positive future.
“The club thanks loyal Lions fans for your outstanding and unstinting support, despite the huge disappointment brought upon us by relegation.”
As the club will now need to prepare to rebuild ahead of the 2025 campaign, the club have issues that “the Board meets tomorrow, and further updates will follow this week.”
