Teenagers around Salford are being inspired to dream big and join in unmissable experiences by the Explorer Scouts.
The Explorer Scouts have been set up to prepare more young people for later stages in life with skills and inspiring programmes.
The groups offer exciting opportunities for boys and girls aged between 14-17, to inspire the youth to achieve more.
And with the success of the first unit, they opened a second unit of the Explorer Scouts in February this year.
The two units the Stegosaurus ESU and Diplodocus ESU, are made of 25 young explorers and five young group volunteer leaders.
The growth of the unit show the impact that they are having on young people, and this is reflected in the group, as lead volunteer James said: “As an explorer leader, it’s all about working on those skills that come in handy later in life.
“Organising yourself and being able to work well in a team.
“When they come to us at 13/14, and you see them leaving as an adult having achieved so much and come so far, it’s really rewarding.”
The groups take part in a wide variety of activities with the scouts sharing on their website that they “try new things, make new friends and conquer the small task of changing the world.”
So far this year, the Explorers have taken part in sessions that include everything from taskmaster and cooking challenges to orienteering, first aid and skills nights.
And that’s not all, they were able to embark on an adventure across the Irish Sea for a week long summer camp to Belfast.
The groups offer the chance for the younger generation of Salford to grow together, and build memories for a life time.
As this was reflected by Explorer Scout Imogen who said: “When I’m having a bad day, I can still come to Explorers, have fun and be myself.”
The new unit, the Lowry District Explorers offer the chance to build confidence and leadership, as well as gaining the opportunity to work with the younger units.
And it is this inspiration that they offer to younger generations that is also so essential for the Lowry District Scouts.
This was expressed by Explorer and young leader Calum, who said: “I enjoy giving them experiences they will not forget and teaching them skills that are valuable in life.”
The Lowry District have over 500 young people from the local community aged between 6-18 are involved in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
The have clearly made an impact on the younger generation of Salford, stretching across Clifton, Pendlebury, Swinton and the City of Salford within the unit.
If you want to get involved in the unit and join in the fun activities in the community you can find out more here.
