A Salford supermarket has been closed for the second day after torrential rain caused flooding across the borough.
Over the past 48 hours, several areas in Salford have been subject to flood alerts, with the city hit by heavy rain on Monday (September 30).
Today (October 1), Tesco Express, on Manchester Road in Swinton, has been closed due to not only severe flooding in the area, but even in the store.
The closure of the local supermarket, which is located next to Moorside railway station, has affected residents, some of whom were unaware of the recent closure before they made a trip to the store.
One local shopper, Sienna, 22, said: “It’s the second time it’s happened and it shouldn’t be happening this much. It’s the second day of the closure now too because of the flooding.”
Another shopper, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “It’s also bad with all the drains in the road, sometimes the whole road has been closed off because of it.”
Tesco staff working at the store declined to comment.
Swinton is not the only area of Salford to have been affected by the flooding.
Yesterday evening (September 30), water levels in Worsley reached an all-time high as the brook burst its banks. At its peak, the water was recorded at 2.08m, with the highest previous level recorded as 1.96m in 2019.
Across the borough, the River Irwell, which acts as the boundary marker that separates Manchester and Salford, was hit with torrential rainfall last night that led to the waterways breaching pathways.
