The 1st October marks a global celebration for all caffeine lovers as International Coffee Day moves through Salford.
The celebrations were met with great pleasure across the city, with local coffee shop KITH-KIN getting involved in the celebrations.
With coffeeshops offering an importance for many across the city, Helen Kirby owner of KITH-KIN spoke about the local cafe: “The people are the best thing about Coffeeshops, without a doubt. We changed our name to Kith+Kin which means friends and family.
“It’s a mid-week treat, it’s a change for some to get out of the house.”
The coffeeshop is located on Chapel Street, and is in the perfect location to get a hot beverage, with Helen continuing to speak on the busy environment, as she said: “We always try to chat with everyone who comes in because sometimes that is the only interaction that person might have for the whole day.”
Across the UK an estimated 98 million cups of coffee are consumed daily, with Salford’s neighbouring city, Manchester being the second biggest consumer of the beverage.
And amongst the celebrations of International Coffee Day, Paul and Mary Hill, 71, were sat in KITH-KIN enjoying a nice brew.
The self-proclaimed coffee lovers explained their loved for hot beverage, as Paul explained: “Coffee isn’t just coffee.
“I work part time so I’m always in and out of work and I find that a coffee in a nice environment like this is very relaxing and it breaks up the day for me.”
The couple shared they are frequent visitors to various coffeeshops across Salford, but shared their love for KITH-KIN, as they said: “We’ve been to various places throughout the years and this is the best coffee spot.
“It’s not just about coffee it’s about the people and the whole experience, I think.”

Visitors of the coffeeshop will be able to experience a wide variety of choice in the world of coffee, being able to find love in a mug from choice of Latte’s, Americano’s, Espresso’s, Frappe’s, Iced and even Turkish coffee’s.
And with the sky of Salford often being grey, the beverage is able to transport you into a world of different cultures, with the beans being mostly imported from Colombia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Honduras.
But if you are looking for a warm beverage in amongst the cold wet weather, use this as an opportunity to celebrate International coffee day.
