The official relaunch of the Quays Mosaic Trail was unveiled by Tommy Charlton, brother of the late footballing legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
Salford MP, Rebecca Long-Bailey MP joined the ceremony for the new plaque in the heart of Salford Quays.
The event marks 21 years since Sir Bobby formally launched the Quays Mosaic Trail in 2003.
With the trail being used to be a three-mile self-guided walk discovering Salford Quays past and present with the look to the future.
The Quays Mosaic project went hand in hand with the development of Salford Quays 25 years ago.
With 19 schools in the neighbourhood close to the Quays, including Langworthy, Ordsall, Old Trafford and Stretford, developed a partnership called the Salford and Trafford Education Action Zone.
With the partnership developing relationships between schools, businesses and communities.
And with the exciting developments around the Quays, children worked with a renowned Manchester mosaic artist, Mark Kennedy, as a part of a longer-term project to design a series of mosaics.
With the trail being set into the pathways around the Mall, The Lowry and across the bridge onto the Trafford side of The Quays.
The original plaque unveiled by Sir Bobby Charlton mapped out the individual mosaics and pathway was on the wall at the front entrance of the Mall until seven years ago, when it was taken down as it had deteriorated.
And since its removal a small group of local supporters have worked together with the support of local councillors and Salford Quays Community Forum, to have the mosaics renovated and a new plaque engraved.
With artist Mark Kennedy, making minor repairs to the mosaics, which had stood up very well to twenty years of wear and tear.
The new plaque was unveiled last Friday, with Sir Bobby Charlton’s brother, Tommy Charlton attending as a guest of honour.
Following the relaunch of the Quays Mosaic Trail Rebecca Long-Bailey MP said: “I was thrilled to join the launch of the newly renovated Quays Mosaic Trail.
“The theme of the original project was ‘the future’ and to me, the trail is now a celebration of all our children and future generations in Salford, and their potential,” she continued.
“Launched by Sir Bobby Charlton 21 years ago, it was really nice to be joined by his brother, Tommy.
“And those who have been instrumental in the renovation including Jo Joliffe, Mark Kennedy, the Salford Quays Community Forum, Salford City Council and local supporters and businesses.”
She finished by adding: “I hope everyone will visit the Quays to take a look.”
The new mosaic plaque can be found outside of the Media City Shopping Centre, with everyone in Salford encouraged to come take a look at the newly renovated Mosaic trail.
With the trail intending to represent the future of Salford with the words ‘together we can achieve more’ displayed on the sign.
