The eastbound section of Eccles Old Road will be closed on weeknights this September for resurfacing works worth nearly £400,000.
More roadwork details have been released concerning the section on Eccles Old Road between Half Edge Lane and Edgehill Road which the council say is in “a very poor condition”.
The section of road towards Gilda Brook Roundabout will be closed on weeknights, from Monday September 2 to Friday October 11, between 7pm and 6am.
The closure will be from Edgehill Road to Gilda Brook Roundabout in that direction only. The westbound side (towards Manchester) will remain open at all times. Some of the side roads will also need to be closed on some nights, depending on which area the roadworks take place.
The below map shows the extent of the closure on Eccles Old Road.

- Arrow pointing left on map – Eccles Old Road towards Gilda Brook Roundabout will be closed on weeknights between 7pm and 6am
The diversion will be via Langworthy Road/ Eccles New Road and will be signposted when the one-way closure on Eccles Old Road is in place.
Bus services will be diverted during the night shifts, between 7pm and 6am with bus stops suspended during those hours. For full details and information regarding any specific services, visit Transport for Greater Manchester.
Resurfacing the road includes removing some of the existing surface, resetting gutter covers and manhole lids as well as repainting white lines and other road markings.
The council warn that removing the existing surface will be the “nosiest bit”. The council stated they aim to finish this work by 12am on every shift, wherever possible. Other types of disruption after 12am may include reverse beepers, running engines and flashing lights.
The council further claims the works have been “carefully planned” to minimise disruption to local traffic and the wider network.
