A new ‘Pedal Powered Family Fun Day’ is coming to Peel Park this September.
The event takes place between 1pm and 3pm on September 1 and features a range of workshops and the use of cargo bikes
It comes after Transport for Greater Manchester offered small businesses and community interest groups across Greater Manchester grants towards the purchase of cargo bikes and trailers. TfGM aimed for the bikes to replace or significantly reduce their reliance on a motor vehicle.
At the ‘Pedal Powered Family Fun Day’ there will be circus, skateboard, dance and theatre workshops and cargo bike try-outs. Also on offer are ceramics and textile workshops along with sensory play and sofa cycling.
Richard Nickson, Active Travel Network Director at TfGM said: “This is going to be a fantastic event, celebrating the success of our grant scheme and the organisations embracing the capability, versatility and sustainability of cargo bikes as a practical and viable means of getting around Greater Manchester.
“As well as being a brilliant day out for the whole family, the Pedal Powered Family Fun Day is a great way of connecting with some of the local businesses and services utilising cargo bikes.
“It’s an opportunity to get insight from people with lived experience who can appreciate the concerns, considerations and practicalities – and of course the many benefits – of choosing to make the leap to pedal power.”
Cargo bikes are simply bikes that can carry heavy or awkward loads as well as the rider and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
