Eccles Old Road

Eccles Old Road will undergo resurfacing works worth nearly £400,000 this September.

They are scheduled to start on Monday September 2 and will be completed by Friday October 11. The works will see carriageway resurfacing, drainage works and the removal of an existing bus lane.

Salford City Council’s Procurement Board awarded a £391,909 contract to Tarmac Trading Ltd on Wednesday August 14.

The council haven’t detailed what time of day road closures will occur but they claimed they would “keep disruption to an absolute minimum”.

Eccles Old Road sits between the A6 Broad Lane and Half Edge Lane and travels between Pendleton and Salford Royal Hospital. The works come after the council raised concerns about its deteriorating condition.

Councillor Mike McCusker, Lead Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainable Development at Salford City Council, said: “Local people and councillors have raised concerns about the condition of the road so we are addressing this.

“The award of this contract is the green light for works which will improve the condition of the road and make it much safer for users. It is positive news.

“Eccles Old Road key route in our city and is used widely. This includes HGVs who pick up and drop off from the local businesses along the route.

“We’d like to apologise to residents for the inconvenience while works take place but we will keep disruption to an absolute minimum.”

Traffic Regulation Orders for the removal of the bus lane have been advertised.

All affected statutory utility services have been notified of the proposed resurfacing works on Eccles Old Road.
