Fat Out Fest

Salford’s Fat Out Fest will feature quirky performances from a range of experimental artists this September.

New names including LYZZA, Kim Lana and Hypersea have been being added to the ‘boundary-pushing’ programme.

The porgramme already features some of the UK’s most innovative artists such as bewitching folk songwriter Angeline Morrison, avante-punk Nuha Ruby Ra, hybrid rock-rap trio Third Kulture and renowned NTS DJ & broadcaster Zakia.

Islington Mill Mirage Bar

The festival’s opening show will take place on Friday September 20 at Salford Museum & Art Gallery and will feature a brand new interactive A/V performance from Hypersea and Working Men’s Club synth player, Hannah Cobb.

Other fresh announcements include the addition of Fatty Acid’s cabaret line-up at the Islington Mill Friday night afterparty, hosted by Violet Blonde with DJ Duckdown, plus performances from Cabbage The Clown, Lesion, Lionel Bitchie, Palace Plastick and Sam Buttery.

Homoelectric regular and Todmorden’s finest Kim Lana will be ruling the decks, whilst Mirage Bar next door will see a performance from Manchester rapper Che3kz and Japanese live techno artist s/h/u/y/a .

Throughout the weekend Islington Mill will play host to an exhibition by queer illustrator and maker Eve Frances, who was the winning artist selected from a highly popular open call launched in collaboration with The Fat Zine. Eve’s tapestry artworks explore themes of Fat Justice and Fat Liberation through positive representation and will be free to view during opening hours at the Mill.

Islington Mill Partisan Club

Brazilian music producer and artist LYZZA is a hot new addition to the full Fat Out takeover of Islington Mill on Saturday September 21, performing alongside Nuha Ruby Ra, QUJAKU, Sarah Bates and Pink Pound, whilst queer electronica experimental night FLUFF joins the party, taking over Mirage Bar for testing-ground performances of new and underground electronic music.

On Sunday September 22, folk-informed collective Calliope have been added to the bill of left-field folk music hosted in Salford’s beautiful Peel Hall. The show will be headlined by ‘Wyrd folk’ multi-instrumentalist Angeline Morrison and Celtic experimentalist Brìghde Chaimbeul, and co-curated with broadcaster, writer and DJ Zakia Sewell.

Festival Founder Emma Thompson says: “I’m really excited to see Fat Out seep out into more spaces this year, taking our freaky sounds and queer energy further into Salford!

“There’s so much gorgeous music and visual art to be excited about, which as always has been collaboratively brought together by our amazing programme partners.”

Tickets are on sale now at fatout.info. Low Income tickets are available for all events, alongside Solidarity tickets for those who are willing and able to lend their support to the not-for-profit festival.
