A man from Prestwich has been ordered to pay £1,250 in costs after dumping 15 bin bags infested with maggots in Salford.
Dan Milhail Motatu, 34, of Downham Crescent, Prestwich, was caught on CCTV dumping 15 bin bags of household waste on Cambridge Street. The bags he dumped on Friday July 28 last year infested with maggots and had a strong smell.
Mr Motatu was invited to three interviews but failed to attend or cooperate with the investigation.
He pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates Court on Thursday July 26 this year and was fined £533 and ordered to pay £1,250 in costs and a £221 victim surcharge.
Abdou Salam Bocoum, 34, of Thornbank North, Bolton, was caught dumping cardboard, plastic trays and other waste at the same location on Cambridge Street on Wednesday March 23 last year.
Mr Bocoum attended an interview with a council officer and admitted the offence, but he chose not to pay the fixed penalty notice.
He was also prosecuted at Manchester Magistrates Court last week as he was fined £384 and ordered to pay £950 in costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
Cllr Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “It’s absolutely disgraceful that these environmental criminals think they can drive to our city to dump their rubbish.
“These prosecutions send a strong message that this will not be tolerated in Salford. We will use our vast network of CCTV cameras to catch people in the act and bring them to justice.”
