Plans for 51 apartments in a retired living scheme in Cadishead have been rejected by the council.
In a document, the council stated that the proposed development on land at Green Lane would “introduce a building of significant scale and mass which does not respect nor make a positive contribution to the local context”.
The development has further been rejected by the council due to a lack of car parking spaces, inadequate bin storage and insufficient separation distances to the houses to the north.
The plans would introduce a three-storey building with a large number of windows facing the “relatively narrow” development site to the north at a distance of less than 12m.
The council also described the development as being “overbearing and oppressive” and also noted that it “turns its back” on Liverpool Road.
The retirement company McCarthy Stone was refused permission to build on the site in Cadishead which formerly housed The Lion pub. The site was previously earmarked for homes by the now-collapsed developer Lane End.
