giant pie

If you’re brave enough to take on the challenge and finish The Black Friar’s giant pie, you can get your bar tab covered for the night.

The Black Friar challenges whoever is up for having a go at their massive sharing pies, which start from £65 and are designed to be shared between four to six people.

The historic pub on Blackfriars Road does ask that their famous pies are pre-ordered and paid for 24 hours in advance. The pie also must be eaten during a sitting, which is typically around two hours.

The YouTube foodie Adam Moran, who runs the channel ‘Beard Meats‘, completed the challenge in just 28 minutes.

In his video on YouTube, which 4.5 million people have watched, Adam smashed through the massive lamb pie and the sides of greens and mash as staff watched in awe.

Halfway through the challenge, Adam commented: “There should be more pie challenges out there, who doesn’t love pie? It’s one of the greatest inventions in the history of humanity.”

After completing the challenge, Adam was applauded by pubgoers who were astounded by his finishing time.

A pubgoer told Adam afterwards: “I’ve never seen anything like that before, it’s made my day.”

After a £1.4 million restoration, the Grade II-listed Black Friar pub became one of the few independently run pubs in Salford in December 2023. The team announced that they would be taking full ownership of the pub after its huge success since re-opening in 2021.
