An alternative show which ‘extensively’ explores mental illness is coming to Salford Arts Theatre this July.

The show consists of “75 minutes of borderline carnage” in the form of a stand-up, sketch and musical comedy. The show aims to speak “to the insanity of psychiatry, labels and our mental health system.”

That’s Not My Name will come to Salford Arts Theatre off Liverpool Street on July 11 and 12 as part of the Greater Manchester Fringe.

With no formal arts training or representation creator Sammy Trotman began writing That’s Not My Name whilst in a psychiatric ward. They are now using the show to challenge clinical models and disorder labels – by holding the darkest parts of herself up to an incredibly callous and arguably more disordered psychiatric framework.

Trotman uses the work to challenge the very idea of sanity & derail the construct of a personality disorder.

Salford is the last stop on their UK tour (funded by Arts Council England) before That’s Not My Name heads to ZOO Venues at Edinburgh Fringe.

Viewers must be aware that the show features an extensive exploration of mental illness, diagnosis, institutionalisation, psychiatry and mental trauma, audience participation, food and drink consumed on stage, partial nudity, strong language, loud noises, flashing lights & scenes of violence.
