This Friday, three teenage Salford boys from the band ‘The Height’ will play at Salford City’s Peninsula Stadium.
The local trio – featuring John Denton (14), Brandon Greenalgh (14) and Ted Ellis (18) – take to the stage in Buck’s Bar this Friday (June 21) for an intimate gig at the home of the Ammies.
The band formed in the late summer of 2022 and the boys soon released their official debut single ‘Nowhere’ in December 2022.
Not only have their singles received much critical acclaim, the band has also caught the ear and eye of legendary The Smiths guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr.
Johnny Marr awarded the lead vocalist/guitarist John Denton the first ever ‘The Salford Foundation Trust Johnny Marr Award’ in 2023 when the vocalist was 13 years old. On a radio interview for BBC Radio 2, Johnny referred to John as “the real deal”.
Joining The Height on stage are two other teenage acts: Gracie-May (15) and The Florentenes (14 and 17). Gracie-May brings soulful vocals and a unique sound, while The Florentenes infuse their music with indie-rock vibes.
The Height said: “We are really excited to be playing the first ever big gig at Salford City.
“Salford is a city of music and football. This June, we’ll create a new music venue with the brilliant Gracie, The Florentenes and DJ Ezi Eden. We want to make this a night people say they remember seeing these young bands live at their own football club!”
From Salford City, Andrew Gordon said: “Salford has given the world some of the greatest bands of the last 50 years. It has a rich cultural heritage that we are really proud of, but life is not just about celebrating the past but also inspiring the future and that is why I am really looking forward to this Friday night.
“We’ll be showcasing the latest talent our amazing city has to offer.”
Tickets will be on sale from 10am on Friday at salfordcitytickets.co.uk or from the club shop on Moor Lane. These will be priced at £14 for adults, and £10 for under-18s and Salford City 2023-24 season ticket holders.
