Plans to build 90 homes on land next to Islington Mill could be approved next week.
The proposals compromise of 27 townhouses and 63 apartments on Regent Trading Estate off Oldfield Road.
The homes, which are a part of a regeneration scheme, will be a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, alongside three and four-bedroom houses.
The homes under the ‘Regent Trading Scheme’ are also set to adopt ‘Passivhaus principals throughout’ which supposedly means lower energy bills and lower carbon emissions.
The plans form as a development funding agreement between Salford City Council and the English Cities Fund (ECF).
The council’s property and regeneration committee will meet on June 24 next week to sign off heads of terms for the development funding agreement between the city council and ECF.
The committee is recommended to provisionally approve a loan to its own housing firm, Dérive, so that they can acquire the site from ECF once the scheme is completed.
Salford Council is currently working with ECF on a 20-year regeneration initiative for the Salford Central area. The Salford Central Masterplan is one of the UK’s largest development projects and is made up of two inter-dependent but distinct areas; Chapel Street and New Bailey.
The scheme has so far brought about the £10m transformation of the A6 corridor and the construction of multiple residential spaces in the area.
