Salford City trio bid farewell as retained and released list submitted

Salford City has released three players following the club’s disappointing League Two campaign.

Jamaican international Adrian Mariappa heads the list of departures. The dependable defender will exit the club upon the conclusion of his contract this summer, after a season and a half as a Salford City player.

Mariappa will be remembered by Ammies fans for his role in the team’s run to the 22/23 League Two play-offs. The versatile centre-back was drafted in by former manager Neil Wood to tighten up the defence and played an instrumental role in his side’s successful term.

Fan favourite Stephen Mallan has also been let go by Salford City. The 28-year-old midfielder will begin his search for first-team football this summer after struggling to force his way into Karl Robinson’s starting side.

During his two-year spell at the Peninsula, Mallan compiled an impressive highlight reel of goals; despite the former Scotland international’s sporadic involvement this season, the midfielder has remained a source of creativity throughout his time at the club.

Connor McLennan has also been released; his year-long spell at the club has come to an end. The 24-year-old joined Salford City last summer and featured regularly throughout this campaign. A winger by trade, the Aberdeen academy graduate was routinely deployed in an unfamiliar defensive role for the side.

Loanees Ethan Ingram and Declan John return to their parent clubs

Loanees Ethan Ingram and Declan John returned to West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers following the conclusion of their respective loan deals.

Karl Robinson hinted that his Salford City side would undergo considerable upheaval before the start of next season. While the club had hoped to hang on to star striker Matt Smith and key midfielder Elliot Watt, it has been announced that both players will move on before August.

By clearing out the deadwood and missing out on re-signing key players, Robinson has opened up space to bring in new signings.

Recently, Salford City announced the arrival of Canadian forward Robbie Cleary. It is evident that the Ammies boss will waste no time reshaping his squad.
