A unique ‘sensory-friendly’ club night for the neurodivergent community in Salford is coming to The Lowry this August.
The club night on Saturday August 31 is targeted at the neurodivergent community and those looking for a safer, less frenetic clubbing experience.
Byron Vincent, 49, from Hackney, founded ‘Disco Neuortico‘ after struggling with his own sensory issues on nights out.
Byron said: “As an ageing raver with diagnoses of ADHD, autism and PTSD, I spent the 90s reaching for the lasers and having panic attacks in the UK’s burgeoning club and festival scenes.
“Neurodivergent people like me often find club spaces overcrowded, unpredictable, claustrophobic and overwhelming. Stressful navigation, few escape routes and fraught interactions contribute to panic, sensory overwhelm and burnout, marring nights out and leaving us exhausted and isolated.
“However, the FOMO is real, so we either attend and endure or avoid and miss out.
From his own experiences, Byron realised the need for an event that has “all the joys of clubbing, with none of the drawbacks.”
There will be lots of staff on hand, and the event starts and finishes early so attended can have a “full night out” but still catch a tram back into town if they need to.
The staff also offer lots of information prior to the event so people know what to expect.
There are multiple varying spaces for attendees to visit at the event, such as the silent disco that plays multiple genres of music. There is also the ‘noisy space’, ‘calm space’, ‘recovery room’ and a gaming area.
The event at The Lowry on the Salford Quays will start at 8pm and finishes at 12pm.
