Police have increased their presence of officers in Swinton after a boy was stabbed in the area yesterday (May 2).

The use of Section 60 powers were implemented after officers were called at 6.20pm to reports of a 17-year-old boy who had been stabbed on Barton Road in Swinton.

Officers and emergency services attended the scene, and the boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Under Section 60 authority, officers have extra powers to stop and search people in a defined area within the specific times listed.

The authority order was put in yesterday from 7pm this evening (Thursday 2 May 2024) till 10am today.

Inspector Rodney Ashton of GMP’s Salford district, said: “Our officers are out conducting further enquiries, and we fully understand that the nature of these sort of incidents and our increased presence in the community will spark worry in the community.

“Please be assured that our officers are working round the clock to ensure the safety of the local community and to do this we have increased visible officers across the district to provide added reassurance to the public.

“We have authorised a section 60 which is highlighted in the map. Within this area we are able to stop and search anyone within this area to search them for any offensive weapons or if we have reason to believe they are conducting criminal activities.

“We will continue to have a presence in the area beyond the conclusion of the additional powers and I would like to thank the public for their support and I’d appeal to them to continue coming forwards with information that will allow us to take action to keep the streets safe.

“We are really keen to gather as much information as possible in relation this incident and would encourage anyone who may have seen anything or have information concerning this to contact us by calling 101 and quoting the reference number 3205 of 2/5/24.

“Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
