Substitute Matt Smith picked up his 23rd League goal as Salford won it late on away to Newport County.
Karl Robinson’s men made the journey down to South Wales without a win in 4 but had the comfort of knowing their status in the division wasn’t in danger.
Neither side offered up much in the opening stages of the game bar some good defensive efforts.
A chance emerged in the second minute of additional time that saw Curtis Tilt and Adrian Mariappa face back-to-back shots on target that were cleared off the line.
After showing glimpses in the first half Connor McLennan was forced off the field due to an injury.

As the half progressed Salford was enjoying a healthy amount of possession which caught the hosts off guard.
Kelly N’Mai replaced Conor McAleny at the hour mark. The 19-year-old asked questions of the Newport backline from the minute he was introduced.
N’mai nearly got Salford off the mark after stealing the ball from a defender. He cut the ball onto the right but couldn’t pull the trigger as he was tackled at the last second.
Matt Smith replaced Matty Lund with 12 minutes of regular time remaining as Salford piled forward to try and make the breakthrough.
Smith’s presence in the attack saw one of his headers crash off the post just after the announcement of additional time.
Another chance for Smith arose again almost instantly. Substitute Junior Luamba managed to beat his man with some tricky footwork which had him staring the goalkeeper in the face.
His attempt from the tight angle was denied by the far post but bounced off to the feet of Smith who smashed the ball into the net, winning it for the Ammies.
