Salford City were beaten late on after a 92nd-minute Mo Faal goal snatched a 2-1 win for Walsall on Easter Monday.
Despite a Matty Lund leveller in the second half, The Ammies were unable to capitalise on their superiority and were ultimately beaten by the play-off candidates.
Karl Robinson’s side were looking to bounce back from their home defeat to a resurgent Sutton United and the boss made four changes from that Friday game.

Salford got an early chance but Callum Hendry blazed Elliot Watt’s set-piece delivery well over the net of Jackson Smith.
The Saddlers seized their first chance and took the lead with Jamille Matt nodding home Isaac Hutchinson’s corner with 10 minutes on the clock.
Looking to level quickly, the visitors piled the pressure on Mat Sadler’s side with a series of attempts, but could not crack their steadfast defence before the break.
Play resumed with goalscorer Matt exiting play to be replaced by former Ammies man Douglas James-Taylor, and the match became much more even-keeled.
Salford finally got their equaliser through Lund just after the hour mark, with Ryan Watson swinging a ball into the path of the Northern Irishman who nodded home from point-blank range.
Robinson looked to take the lead at Bescot Stadium, bringing on Matt Smith and Kelly Nmai with just over 10 minutes left and the pair were only a tame shot away from making an instant impact.

But it would be the hosts that snatched the win at the death, with Mo Faal dispatching a shot home in added time to keep Walsall’s play-off push alive.
Salford remain in 20th place with 47 points and travel south to AFC Wimbledon this weekend with only four games of the season left to play.
