Salford City prepare to take on Sutton United on Good Friday in a game where a win could see the Ammies mathematically safe from relegation.
The home side find themselves in 19th place ahead of Friday’s match on 47 points, whilst the visitors, Sutton United, are within the relegation zone in 23rd place on 33 points.
A win for Salford would see them on 50 points, 17 points clear of Sutton with only five games remaining, meaning they would be safe from the drop zone – which was a real concern when manager Karl Robinson was first appointed.
In the reverse fixture, goals from Matt Smith and Kelly Nmai saw Salford City win 2-0 away at Sutton United all the way back in October. Salford are unbeaten in this fixture since 2018, when both sides faced off in the National League.
Salford City find themselves in good form going into this match, as they are unbeaten in their previous three matches – an important 2-1 win away at Notts County being the result in their most recent fixture.
Despite languishing in the relegation zone, Sutton United have won their previous two games as they won 1-0 away at Forest Green and, in their previous game, won 3-1 at home against mid-table Accrington Stanley.
In his press conference Thursday afternoon, Robinson spoke highly of Conor McAleny and, after scoring twice in that win against Notts County, he will be the man to watch for Salford City.
Sutton United’s danger man will undoubtedly be Charlie Lakin, as he has 4 assists in his previous 2 games – picking up a hattrick of assists in his side’s win against Accrington Stanley.
Salford take on Sutton today, with kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium at 3pm.
