Salford Red Devils were defeated on Thursday in a disappointing 12-22 loss at home to local rivals Wigan Warriors.

Wigan Warriors came from behind in the second half from 12-10 down after taking the lead on both sides of half time. This was before Salford came back and took a narrow lead.

Wigan left it late to snatch a win with Jake Wardle and Bevan French winning the game to take the Warriors to four wins in four. Salford will be disappointed as they started well and managed to hold the World Club Champions all game.

The first half was a tight affair with both defences holding well under pressure. After what looked like a 0-0 halftime, Wigan then took the lead with Marshall putting them 4 points to the good at the end of the first half.

A second try added more pressure onto Salford. But they weren’t to be rolled over and quickly regained a lead.

Tries from Lafai and Stones and two conversions from Sneyd gave the hosts a lead. Wigan woes increased when they were reduced to 12 players after Smith was sinbinned.

However a kick from Marc Sneyd gifted Wigan back into the game as his loose kick was pounced on and Wigan retook the lead thanks to Wardle.

Until then Sneyd was producing a player of the match performance with his skilful kicking helping Salford take the lead. A quick try from French and with Keighran converting both conversions this last minute turnaround wrapped up the victory for Wigan.

Salford Red Devils next game is Friday as they travel to Hull Kingston Rovers in the Challenge Cup. They then return to Super League action at home to Leigh.
